Great Kingston Kick Off!
Thank you to everyone who worked to make our Kingston kick off event, Paid Family Leave in 2016, a great success!!!
We had about 30 people present, including members from 1199 SEIU, AARP, Citizen Action, CSEA Local 108, HPWU- Postal Workers, KFST, NYCLU, NYSNA, Planned Parenthood Mid Hudson Valley, Midtown Rising, UUP and Wallkill School.
A special thanks to the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation for hosting and providing our refreshments, to to our Keynote Speaker, Nancy Rankin who helped us find our outrage; to each of our panelists who made the issue local and personal; and to Minerva Solla who inspired us to think of ways to carry the campaign forward. Local electeds and candidates were also present, including Mike Hein who welcomed us along with Paul Ellis-Graham of NYSUT, Doug Koop, Kingston City Council, Jennifer Schwartz Berky, candidate for Ulster County Legislature and Steve Noble, candidate for Mayor of Kingston. Aileen Gunther was represented by Allison Horan.
We collected postcards and ideas for further action and will be scheduling a conference call to plan next steps soon.
